Cube 2004-05-22

Cube is an open source multiplayer and singleplayer first person shooter game built on an entirely new and very unconventional engine. Cube is a landscape-style engine that pretends to be an indoor FPS engine, which combines very high precision dynamic occlusion culling with a form of geometric mipmapping on the whole world for dynamic LOD for configurable fps & graphic detail on most machines. Uses OpenGL & SDL.

You don't have to go through so much trouble. Just download it from the link given from Derek Arndt. The copy works from the start. Anyway, I love it!

Now it's working, thanks a lot! If you could reverse the mouse it would be 5 points;-)

A few tips on getting it to run: 1. Download the other version that another reviewer mentioned, control click on it, and choose "Show Package Contents", then into Contents. Then, copy and paste (or move) the Frameworks folder into the nonworking version of Cube for OS X that comes in this download. Viola, you have not just a working copy of cube, but one that can play multiplayer with the Windows and Linux versions. To change resolution, there are some .command files that come with the working OS X binary. Edit these so they say cube instead of cube-osx, and double click to start Cube with the resolution you want to use.

I want to warn everyone that this port is an entirely different effort then the cube that appeared here some time ago that I created. I ported Cube a few years ago (was it that long ago?) because I couldn't get Wouter to commit to doing a mac version (he also had some harsh words to say about the mac platform, sadly). The mac project is finally now being handled by the original developer and I'm happy to see it happen.

Download the file http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cube-osx/cube-osx-binary-v0.5.dmg.gz?download Once you have it mounted, drop the cube-osx into the the cube folder for THIS build you just downloaded (I ignored the resolution commands just to see if adding this file was right) and launch it. Thought this could help :)
