Apple GeForce 2.1.1
This document contains important late-breaking information about the GeForce2 MX Driver Update. For the latest information about the GeForce2 MX Driver Update and answers to support questions, go to the Apple Support Web site at www.apple.com/support/
The installer update has been changed for customers with the 1017F version firmware.
The GeForce2 MX Driver Update installs new graphics card firmware and Mac OS 9 system extensions which improve performance and applications compatibility. The new firmware also fixes a compatibility problem between the older firmware and newer versions of the NVIDIA system extensions.
The firmware on your graphics card will be updated only if an older version is detected. During the firmware update, your display will dim or go dark for 10 to 15 seconds then reappear.
Important: Do not disturb your machine while the firmware update is in progress.
You must restart your computer for the new firmware and extensions to take effect.
Troubleshooting
If you use the new NVIDIA extensions with the 1017F1 version firmware, or the new firmware with older extensions, the screen image may appear shifted to one side of your display. To temporarily fix the screen image, change the screen resolution using the Monitors Control Panel or the Monitor Resolution Control Strip. Then run this Update installer to install the new graphics card firmware and new system extensions.

Great! I've been waiting for this update; it finaly offers a performance boost. Before, my timedemos in UT were shoddy to say the least (38 fps average at 800x600 with setting at medium). And now they average around 70 fps at 1024x768 with everything to high! Much nicer! I'm runinf on a 733 btw. Also, Mac framerates don't compare to PC's with the same card because of the PPC architecture, nothing to do with the card. Sad to say it, but is y'want crazy framerates, you need a PC.... |

It works fine for me but there are a few slow downs - more than I would expect for a GeForce2 MX card at least. It works better on PC's. I'm just waiting for a control panel like nVidia released for Windows so I can overclock my board. Also, Detonator drivers for Mac would be good. By the way, just flash a 3rd party card with the new Apple ROM. Only buy hardware from Apple if you need to or if you just like throwing money away. |

Apple is not the one to blame, nVidia is the Mx card is no substitute for a real geForce 2 gts or Ultra but a 3 is nice when the drivers are tuned-up. |
