Another Fine Mess
The tangled worlds of Ray's Maze await you in Another Fine Mess. The initial plot is simple: you are searching for treasure, but as you move through the worlds of the maze, you become involved in a number of more complex story lines. Seek your fortune or die trying as you visit eerie moors, a desolate battlefield, and an ancient castle. Battle bureaucrats, sand pirates, and other horrific monsters. Challenging puzzles and fantastic treasures abound. Another Fine Mess is multilayered, with plots and subplots, and puzzles within puzzles. But it's also nonlinear, so you don't have to finish one area before moving on to the next

This game is just SO much fun, and insidiously addictive.
I love the non-linear nature of AFM. I love that, even when you've played it for a long time, there are still fun new tricks to discover (for instance, I'd been playing for ages before I tried asking anything with a mouth to talk). I love the humor. I especially love that this game is completely engaging for me as an adult, but also for my kids (AFM is entirely the reason my son learned to touch type at age 5). I love that it's not a shoot-em-up game, and that curiosity and inventiveness are crucial to playing it well.
When my beloved Mac died and we replaced it with a PC, I lost access to Another Fine Mess. I miss visiting and exploring that world. |
