(12/2/2007 - version 1.0.4) This reminds me of an old game I absolutely loved called Fungus (a newer knock-off is Freeverse's Byte Me!) that was kind of a combination of Othello and Tetris. Like Fungus, Biofilm strikes me as something that would be most fun versus one or more other human players. Biofilm is fun and tightly designed, but it has limited replay value, with multiplayer and a nice level editor, it could become a truly classic game.
