Atlantis is a first person shooter modification for the game Unreal Tournament 2004. The concept behind Atlantis is to provide players with a unique atmosphere, and gamestyle. Atlantis is designed to be a multiplayer and teamplay oriented game. Such games are usually lacking of atmosphere, and most of them like Counter Strike can be considered (and are played) as sports.
Multiplayer games have brought to gamers a unique feel of challenge and brotherhood, and we have all played them for that reason. But unfortunately we have all been disappointed by the lack of immersion, or real atmosphere that only single player games have succeed to create.
Thats why the goal of Atlantis is to launch players into battles having a deep atmosphere. Atlantis is more than ever an action and adventure game than your standard First person shooter. Concepts such as "immersion", "interactivity" or "atmosphere" are thus emphasized. The main aspect about it is the importance we put in the story and staging. Thus, we have developed a detailed and coherent storyline to set the action of the game. Then all maps players will visit (map = gaming environments) have their own storyline, taking place into the main one. So you know why you are fighting, where you are and what you have to do.
The atmosphere isnt the only key of the game. Atlantis is a multiplayer game and thus it opposes two different and unique teams : Humans Vs Atlanteans. The idea is to oppose two very different races with their own arsenal and technologies. That aspect changes radically the shape of battles resulting, and gamers will have to develop different strategies if they are humans or Atlanteans. This will change a lot from modern wars atmosphere and spice it a lot !
