ProximityMines 2.0.1
ProximityMines is a shiny new version of the classic puzzle game Minesweeper, featuring:
• animated application icon
• high quality sound effects
• custom minefields, up to 32 by 24 in size
Developed using Apple's Cocoa frameworks, ProximityMines also features all the bells and whistles you've come to expect from OS X: seamless window animations, sheets, toolbars, and Aqua's exceptional good looks.

Version 2.0.1:
• New preference to allow indirect flagging of mines when control- or right-clicking on neighboring tiles

Universal Binary (PPC/Intel)
• MacOS X 10.4 or later

I do not really like this Minesweeper clone. A part of it might have to do with the fact that I made my own (iMine), so I am not truely objective, but I simply do not like the user interface of this game and I think it lacks a very important feature: If, for example, you have a 2 field and found two mines, other minesweepers have a key to hold down or something similar to open all surrounding fields. This one hasn't. And, after all, I'm never gonna pay for a Minesweeper. |

Very nicely done Minesweeper clone! It has a more refined look to it and nicer sounds compared to Bommo Sweeper X (another top Minesweeper clone). I trust this is chiefly due to ProximityMines being a Cocoa app, whereas BS is Carbon.
I'm dinging ProximityMines on my rating solely for the price. At $15, I feel that is too much to ask for, especially when Bommo Sweeper is free. Yes... PM looks a bit nicer than BS, but not $15 nicer, and the gameplay is by no means better. |
