Civilization III Complete 1.22 Rev A
This patch updates both Civilization 3 Complete and the unsupported Civilization 3 Play the World applications. This patch will update any version of Civilization III Complete Macintosh to version 1.22 Rev A.
Installation instructions
To install this update, double click the Installer and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be asked to locate the Civilization III Complete folder that is installed on your hard disk.
NOTE: If you are using QuickTime 7.6 or later, please install the Rev. A patch. Once you've done that, install the update here: http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=239target=&id=598
1.22 Rev A Update Changes
- Provides a Universal Binary for both the Civilization 3 Complete and Play the World applications.
- Fixes error "Load Error: Error Reading file: Missing Entry in: Game Data\text\PediaIcons.txt"
- Fixes instances where game would sometimes fail when completing research, giving an error about missing Civilopedia entries or other strange behavior.
- Fixed sporadic crashes when music cues were being stopped.
- Music stuttering should be greatly reduced.
- Custom scenarios (such as the SGOTM at civfanatics.com) are now properly found if placed in "~/Documents/Civilization 3 Complete/Scenarios" (searched first) or "Conquests Game Data/Scenarios" (searched second)
- Saved files are now compressed. (Autosave files are never compressed, which is the same as the PC version.)
- When playing fullscreen (as opposed to a window), you may now temporarily leave the game by using either Cmd-H (OSX's hide command) or Cmd-Tab. Clicking on the game icon in the dock (or using Cmd-Tab again) will return you back to where you were.
- Compatibility fixes for several third-party mods. In particular, the "Rhye's of Civilization" mod now works. As a side effect, network games will not work with previous versions.
Known Issues
Multiplayer games between PowerPC Macs running Mac OS X 10.3.x and Intel Macs running Mac OS X 10.4.x may experience difficulties. To avoid these issues, all players should be running Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

| For 10.5.7 I found that if I changed my permission to the CIV 3 folder to be modified to be "Write Only (Drop Box)" instead of "Read Write", that this patch could be installed and work. |

| None of the solutions below worked on mac OS X 10.5.7. What a disappointment! |

| EVENTUALLY - If you look on the support site now B, there is a replacement application icon that is needed for after you have installed Rev A. Link is:
http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=239target=&id=598
The file is zipped and should open automatically putting the new app icon on your desktop. Just swap this for your old one and ding dong... |

| I found a link (I forget where) that led me to here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=6620038
What it is is a Civ III Rev A manual Install for those of us whose attempt to load the 1.22RevA patch failed when it got stuck in the installation process (Installing... Openplay.rsrc). I downloaded it, and when it finished and it opened up automatically. I followed the instructions and loaded the game and so far so good.
fyi the first time I tried to download and open this it wouldn't mount saying it was unrecognized but the second time it seems to have worked. |

| I think I'm having the same problem as VJ. I'm running 10.4.11 on a 1st gen MBP. I click on the .app file - the icon behaves like it's opening - nothing happens, no error nothing. It's been at least 9 months since I ran it last with no problems then. The only reason I'm on this site is because I just reinstalled CIV 3 Complete because it wouldn't open and I thought the patch might help also. I actually have the .dmg for this patch from a long time ago, but I don't think it will help since I didn't get any errors when I installed this automatic version. I'm really confused, this may be the first real problem I've had with my mac... guess I'll need to bring it to a genius bar... |
